Books Like Divergent

Looking for books like Divergent by Veronica Roth? We have your list of similar good books here. It's really tough when you find a book that you really like and suddenly the book is over and you struggle to find meaning in your life. At least I feel that way.

A really good book leaves a hole in your heart that can't be filled. The best thing to do after reading a life-changing story is to find a book that is like the one that you have finished.

Some of the books below are quite common, but others are new and are just starting to come into the spotlight. Are there books like Divergent? Read the list below to find out for yourself.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Picture
I'm sure that a majority of you that have read Divergent have also read The Hunger Games, but I thought I'd put it at the top of my list just to make sure (watching the movie doesn't count!). The Hunger Games is a trilogy, with the sequel named "Catching Fire" and the third book in the Hunger Games series is called "Mockingjay." The Catching Fire movie is coming out in the fall, so now is a good time to re-read the series as well.

The Host

Picture
The Host is by Stephanie Meyers - the same person who wrote the Twilight series. It has also been made into a movie, so you know it can't be all that bad! The Host is about an alien invasion where the aliens are able to take over the minds of humans and use their bodies. However, one teenager refuses to be taken over as she battles her host and tries to save those that she loves.

Here is the official movie trailer so you can learn more about the story:

Blood Red Road

Picture
Blood Red Road is the first book in the Dust Lands series by Moira Young. It is about a girl who has a twin brother that gets kidnapped and is forced to leave her home, a safe wasteland, and to try to fight her way to her brother's (and her own) safety.

As you can see from the book's cover, some people think it is better than The Hunger Games.

Graceling

Picture
The book Graceling by Kristin Cashore is not really like the Divergent book in storyline, but it has a strong female lead and should be a book you'll like. This book is set in medieval times and follows a young girl, Katsa, as she explores love while battling her emotions regarding serving her uncle, the king, by doing what she does best... killing people.

I admit that this book does not rival Divergent or The Hunger Games, but it is still very interesting.

Matched

Picture
Matched is a trilogy by Ally Condie in which the Society controls everyone's decisions as they know what is best. However, a glitch that occurs during the Matching ceremony causes not one, but two mates to show up. The Society says that the first match, Xander, is correct, but she begins to fall in love with the second person that was shown on the screen, Ky. Can she be the first to go against society for true love?
