Tobias Eaton
Tobias Eaton is one of the main characters in the book "Divergent" by Veronica Roth.
We are first introduced to Tobias when the Prior family is discussing the antagonistic reports that the Erudite faction has been releasing about the Abnegation faction. The reports state that Tobias Eaton has left Abnegation for the Dauntless faction due to his father Marcus's violence and cruelty toward him. We are told that Marcus was devastated when Tobias left him. We also found out that Tobias's mother died while giving birth to his sibling (the sibling died minutes later) which means Marcus was left alone in Abnegation.
The main character, Beatrice Prior, reflects that she never met Tobias while he was in Abnegation. He rarely attended community events and never joined his father at their house for dinner. Her father often remarked that it was strange of Tobias Eaton not to be social. He also considers Tobias leaving the faction to be a sign of betrayal.
